There are plenty of good animated films, but great animated films are rare and should be treasured. Nimona is one such film, having been one of the biggest animated hits of 2023 — and that’s saying something, given we also got Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and TMNT: Mutant Mayhem last year, too. Now, you can watch it for free, but only for a limited time.

For reasons that are largely unexplained, Netflix, the distributor of the film, has made Nimona available for free, in its entirety, on YouTube. The film is an hour and a half long, and after having watched it – for research purposes of course – it is indeed exactly the same as the version that’s available on Netflix. Check it out yourself below:

Nimona is an animated medieval fantasy film that tells the story of a shapeshifting teen named Nimona who teams up with a knight whose duty it is to slay her after he was falsely accused of a crime. It’s a fantastic film with some absolutely gorgeous animation, incredible music from Disney composer Christophe Beck, and some top-notch vocal performances from Chloë Grace Moretz and Riz Ahmed.

It was originally in production at Blue Sky Studios, a subsidiary of 20th Century Fox, but was dropped by Disney after the studio was closed following the company’s acquisition of Fox. It was subsequently picked up by Annapurna Pictures, and signed exclusively to Netflix.

Nimona released on Netflix in June 2023, and was met with glowing reviews and dozens of award nominations. The film holds a critic score of 93% on review score aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, making it a “Certified Fresh” release, and has a similarly great audience score of 91%.

Nimona will only be available for free on YouTube for a week, and is set to be removed on February 27, 2024 — so get in quick. After it’s gone, you’ll have to sign up for Netflix to watch it, and it’s definitely worth watching.
