Watch Nic von Rupp Score Divine Waves in Portugal's 'Surf Heaven'
Nic von Rupp's surf series, "Portugal Back to Back," had us hooked when the first episode dropped about a month ago ago.
The Portuguese big wave surfer just released episode three. This time, he's continuing his quest for beautiful places and epic waves in Portugal's Oeste region.
In the latest episode, von Rupp scores perfect waves and shares a personal connection to Peniche, one of his first surf trips.
In the video above, von Rupp says, "This place was really important for me as a surfer growing up, this is where I learned how to ride the barrel."
He captioned the edit:
"Nic Von Rupp embarks on an exhilarating surf and island-hopping escapade in Peniche, a geological wonder of the Portuguese coast where there’s always a place blowing offshore.
"Peniche is one of those places that seem to be conceived by a surfer’s mind. It welcomes all kinds of swells and winds and provides waves and conditions for all levels of surfers, from inexperienced novices to high-skilled pros. But don’t be fooled into thinking Peniche is just about surfing.
"Joined by his girlfriend, Nic takes a romantic trip around the medieval town of Óbidos, one of Portugal’s must-go places, before jumping on a boat and paying a visit to the breathtaking Berlengas Islands natural reserve, a jewel of Portugal’s West Coast. From towering barrels to exploring hidden coves or walking around old castle walls, this is a journey of history searching, nature immersion and red-hot surfing action.
From von Rupp perspective, the waves in Peniche's Supertubos, is one of the best beach breaks in the world up there with Pipeline and Puerto Escondido.
"I'm very lucky to have this place," he says.
