The Green Mile, October 1
Based on Stephen King's 1996 serial novel of the same name, this film follows a death row warden named Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) who has a change of heart after getting to know John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a criminal convicted of a heinous crime. It has a reputation for being a tear-jerker.
Private Life, October 5
A couple in their 40s, Rachel (Kathryn Hahn) and Richard (Paul Giamatti) struggle with the stress of infertility and, as a result, a crumbling marriage. Luckily, their step-niece Sadie (Kayli Carter) may be able to help. The Tamara Jenkins-directed drama is funny yet painful to watch.
Dancing Queen, October 5
Think of this as Dance Moms gone drag. Justin Johnson is best known as RuPaul's Drag Race season 5 contestant Alyssa Edwards, the fabulously over-the-top queen that, on her downtime, leads the Beyond Belief Dance Company in Mesquite, Texas. In this docuseries, Edwards prepares young talent for the strain of competition, tongue pops included.
Malevolent, October 5
A Netflix original, this thriller follows Siblings Angela (Florence Pugh) and Jackson (Ben Lloyd-Hughes) as they scam the bereaved into thinking they have the ability to make contact with the dead, a lie that quickly blows up in their face.
Apostle, October 12
Downton Abbey actor Dan Stevens ditches the English countryside in this terrifying thriller about a man who makes his way to a cult-inhabited remote island to rescue his sister in 1905. It's scary and there's a lot of blood involved.
The Haunting of Hill House, October 12
Here's one to watch on Halloween. Season 1 is based on Shirley Jackson's 1959 novel of the same name, which follows four people who deal with their dark past while facing the terror of the haunted house they moved into.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, October 26

Been So Long, October 26
Set in London and based on the play by Ché Walker and Arthur Darvill, Chewing Gum's Michaela Coel stars as a single mom who falls for an attractive, troubled stranger (Arinzé Kene). The film, which incorporates an R&B; soundtrack, marks Netflix's first foray into musicals.
Patriot Act with Hisan Minhaj, October 28
