The Green Mile, October 1

Based on Stephen King's 1996 serial novel of the same name, this film follows a death row warden named Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) who has a change of heart after getting to know John Coffey (Michael Clarke Duncan), a criminal convicted of a heinous crime. It has a reputation for being a tear-jerker.


Private Life, October 5

A couple in their 40s, Rachel (Kathryn Hahn) and Richard (Paul Giamatti) struggle with the stress of infertility and, as a result, a crumbling marriage. Luckily, their step-niece Sadie (Kayli Carter) may be able to help. The Tamara Jenkins-directed drama is funny yet painful to watch.

Think of this as Dance Moms gone drag. Justin Johnson is best known as RuPaul's Drag Race season 5 contestant Alyssa Edwards, the fabulously over-the-top queen that, on her downtime, leads the Beyond Belief Dance Company in Mesquite, Texas. In this docuseries, Edwards prepares young talent for the strain of competition, tongue pops included.

Downton Abbey actor Dan Stevens ditches the English countryside in this terrifying thriller about a man who makes his way to a cult-inhabited remote island to rescue his sister in 1905. It's scary and there's a lot of blood involved.
