Apple TV+'s science fiction drama For All Mankind is a gripping blend of fiction and history, imagining a world in which the Soviet Union won the space race. Using real events and characters as a jumping off point, the show—which is created by former Outlander showrunner Ronald D. Moore—explores the lives of NASA astronauts and their families as the U.S. strives to gain the upper hand over Russia.

Joel Kinnaman stars as fictional astronaut Edward Baldwin, leading a cast that also includes Michael Dorman, Sarah Jones, Shantel VanSanten and Jodi Balfour (who you may remember as The Crown's Jackie Kennedy).

Season one followed the American space program from the 1960s to 1970s, while season two focused on the 1980s, and season three will reportedly jump forward again to the 1990s. Per the official synopsis, the third season will focus on the race to Mars, and will introduce a third player in the space race. Here's what Apple TV+ has to say about what's to come:

In season three, the Red Planet becomes the new frontier in the Space Race not only for the U.S. and the Soviet Union, but also an unexpected new entrant with a lot to prove and even more at stake. Our characters find themselves going head-to-head as their ambitions for Mars come into conflict and their loyalties are tested, creating a pressure cooker that builds to a climactic conclusion.

The show is an AppleTV+ original, so the only place to watch it is via that streaming platform. If you're not already a subscriber, there are some ways to test out the service—and catch up on For All Mankind before the new season debuts.
