Florida's New Smyrna Beach is known for surfing and shark attacks.

Yesterday, it earned a new claim to fame when a New York man got busted for joyriding a white Dodge Ram pickup truck through the ocean at the popular beach, according to reports.

His excuse? "Not my fault the truck don't surf."

In the footage above, Jason Brzuszkiewicz, 49, drives the truck not just into the water, but for a good distance he continues parallel to the shore.

At one point, it looks like he's getting stuck, but he keeps going and even tries to do donuts.

Once he's on the beach, he tells the cops:

"It's not my fault the truck don't surf."

"Yeah, but you shouldn't be driving on the beach when the gates are all closed," a deputy replies.

Brzuszkiewicz was charged with failure to pay vehicular access fee and transported to the Volusia County Branch Jail with a $200 bond, according to the sheriff's office.

Volusia County has been dubbed “the shark bite capital of the world" by the International Shark Attack File, the world's only scientifically documented, comprehensive database of all known shark attacks.

Last fall one surfer was bitten on the face by a shark while surfing at New Smyrna. A month before that, two surfers were attacked in one weekend.

According to the database, Volusia County has had 343 unprovoked shark attacks since 1882, more than double Florida's Brevard County at 156 and Palm Beach at 82.
