In his latest video, Koa Smith teamed up with Kelly Slater for some novelty. Though Smith is best known for his dominance in heavy barrels, he’s been venturing outside of his comfort zone of late. This time, the Oahu surfer decided to abandon his normal haunts for an ‘undisclosed location’ with the GOAT. What they found were air sections, miniature tubes and a series of double-ups that allowed for a few mind-boggling wave to wave transfers.

“That was so sick. I feel like we just did a trip to Indonesia, little baby Lance’s Right with Kelly Slater,” summed up Smith afterwards. He also took a brief detour down memory lane, saying, “This wave is where I got one of my first memorable barrels. I think I was like, six years old, seven years old. I remember coming in, going ‘I got a 10 second barrel!’ – looked at the footage and it was like half a second. Something about the tube slows down time.”

The second half of the video pivoted to an alternate POV of a session we previously saw on Jamie O’Brien’s YouTube channel, where Smith, Slater, O’Brien and Blair Conklin teamed up for a rare novelty session at Pipeline. The boys saddled up on some foam boards to ride some two-foot backwash – straight at the Pipeline lineup.
