Buckle up, I’m back to milk my film minor. The slow march into awards season is really more of a sprint at this point, and though awards seasons of yore may be remembered by on-stage slaps, this season will be marked by the incredible movies given to us by the cinema gods.
The most anticipated movies of the season proved to be worth every penny: Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest, Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall, and the subject of the next 500 words, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon. To the joy of anyone with an Apple TV+ account, all three hours of Killers of the Flower Moon will likely soon be seen from the comfort of your couch, in your home.
Martin Scorsese’s new film is an adaptation of the 2017 book of the same name, which digs into a sordid corner of American history. But let's face it, most corners of American history are sordid. Killers of the Flower Moon follows the murders of members of the Osage Nation in 1920s Oklahoma after valuable oil was found on their tribal land. The Osage murders marks one of the very first homicide investigations completed by the newly formed FBI.
The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, in what critics are calling a career-high performance, and newcomer Lily Gladstone, who is already leading the charge towards a Best Actress win. The film also stars Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, and Brendan Fraser. This writer and every insufferable man you may have been on a date with will remind you that Killers of the Flower Moon marks the tenth collaboration between Scorsese and De Niro, and the sixth between Scorsese and DiCaprio.
How Can I Watch Killers of the Flower Moon?
Though the film is produced and distributed by Apple, it is not yet available to stream on Apple TV+. That said, there is one thing we can be absolutely sure of. When this movie does begin streaming, it will certainly be exclusive to Apple TV+, so dive back into that budget and make room for a new $6.99 a month. The current rumor is that the movie will be on streaming in January, so it would be a good time to subscribe to the service.
If you're just dying to watch the film at home and don't want to wait until it hits Apple TV+, there is a solve! The movie is currently available for rent and purchase on your favorite platform. Renting it will cost you $19.99, and buying it will cost you $24.99.
The film has mostly concluded its theatrical run, but is still playing in some select theaters. And during awards season, some theaters put awards contenders back in theaters so people can see them on the big screen. So feel free to check this link to see if it's playing in your area.
