Watch Kate Middleton's Brother James Shave His Beard and Surprise His Fiancée with His New Look

James Middleton (yes, that's Kate Middleton's brother) is finding creative ways to keep things interesting in quarantine, and taking his fans along for the ride. His Instagram has featured images of civilized dinner parties with his doggies, documented highly adorable inter-species friendships—and now, it's going behind the scenes of a personal transformation. On Monday, the royal-adjacent dog dad posted a new video, in which he shaves off his beard for the first time in seven years, and promptly surprises his fiancée with his new look.

He introduces the video by referencing his and Alizee Thevenet's wedding, which was postponed amid the pandemic. "Alizee and myself were due to get married—well actually this month—and she’s never seen me without a beard, so I thought it was about time I showed her what was behind here," he says, gesturing at his facial hair. "In fact, what I’m most worried about is these guys might not recognize me afterwards," James adds, petting one of his many dogs. "Say goodbye."

It then cuts to a time lapse of James shaving it all off, and showing off his newly bare chin. And then, the big reveal: he approaches Alizee, who is sitting on the patio with James's mother Carole and father Michael, and shows off his hairless face. She squeals in surprise, and struggles to acclimate. "So weird!" she says. "Even when I kiss you, it's different."
