WATCH: Kate Middleton’s Royal Training Reportedly Involved Watching Videos of Princess Diana

Though it may look easy from the outside, being royal is anything but.

Adjusting to life under a microscope isn’t easy for anybody, and it’s particularly complicated for those who marry into the British royal family. After all, it’s no secret that the rules of royal etiquette aren’t for the faint of heart.

When it comes to dealing with the media, classes are apparently required. According to royal expert and author Katie Nicholl, Kate Middleton’s media training actually began when she started dating Prince William at St. Andrews back in 2003.

In her new book

, Nicholl reports that Middleton looked to Princess Diana for help navigating her newfound fame.

"Bizarrely, she had been advised to watch footage of the late Princess of Wales in order to learn how to deal with the paparazzi, notorious for being aggressive in their pursuit of a picture, taunting their prey in order to get a response,” Nicholl writes, per AOL. “At the Palace, there was a concerted effort not to allow Kate to be exposed to the same ruthless treatment."

And because the future Duchess of Cambridge wasn't yet a royal, she wasn’t given official protection in public. Nicholl reports that Middleton was told not to pose for pictures or interact with the paparazzi but was given access to the royal press office and advisors for support.

Well those classes absolutely paid off, and we have no doubt that Princess Diana would be very proud of the Duchess Kate has become.
