John Oliver is not afraid to speak his mind. During Sunday’s episode of Last Week Tonight, the late-night host let the audience know his thoughts on the coronavirus outbreak—which included addressing some recent headlines and news coverage.

The virus, formally known as COVID-19, has led to an international concern ever since the first case was detected in China in December 2019. During his monologue, Oliver referenced a recent segment from Good Day New York; in the clip he showed, news anchors wonder whether someone could contract the virus from ingesting Chinese food.

“No, you can’t!” Oliver exclaimed. “Of course you can’t get the coronavirus from eating Chinese food! In fact, if you’re eating at a Panda Express, you can’t even get Chinese food from eating Chinese food.”

Oliver went on to break down some statistics, explaining to the audience that this particular viral strain does come with a two percent mortality rate. “Two percent of people is a lot when you’re talking about people dying,” the HBO host said to his audience. “Think of it this way: Two percent of people disappearing was literally the premise of The Leftovers.”

While Oliver criticized President Trump’s handling of the pandemic—“this is a bad time to have a president who cannot speak clearly”—he circled back to his original point: There’s good reason for everyone to be mindful about the coronavirus.

“The truth is, while clinical trials are underway, there is no treatment for the coronavirus at the moment," he said. "How scared should you be? A bit.”

At the end of the clip, Oliver offered tips as to how people can take the time to protect themselves from the coronavirus:

  1. Don’t be racist about who is becoming affected by the virus.

  2. Don’t hoard all the face masks because other people need them too.

  3. Check out the CDC website for all the information on the coronavirus.

  4. Wash your hands (make sure you do it for twenty seconds!).
