Watch Hari Nef Get Ready for the 2019 CFDA/ Vogue Fashion Fund Awards Dinner

You might know her best as one of the most promising young actresses in Hollywood, but Hari Nef got her start in the New York City fashion ratrace. Back in 2012, she was an intern at Vfiles along with Vaquera’s Patric DiCaprio (who is also a former recipient of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award). In her role at Vfiles, Nef spent her days toiling away backstage at New York Fashion Week shows, lacing up models’ Converse sneakers, among other menial tasks.

Nef’s presence at the 2019 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards felt like quite the full-circle moment for the intern turned actress. She still retains close ties to the fashion world, and says a lot of her designer friends have benefited from this awards event—whether they’ve won the top prize or not.

For the occasion, Nef chose a ruffled black Brock Collection gown from a rack full of previous CVFF-award winners (that was curated by Vogue’s Market Editor Alexandra Gurvitch). Despite the glamorous milieu, Nef said the evening felt to her more like an intimate family affair. “As far as I’m concerned, I’m going to a very prestigious barbecue where a very lucky designer is going to get awarded a very prestigious rack of ribs.” That’s certainly one way to put it.
