Chechi Sarai

Chechi Sarai was only like 10 words into her rendition of Minnie Riperton’s classic '70s hit “Lovin’ You,” when John Legend and Gwen Stefani simultaneously pushed their buttons for her. Then it was just a few more seconds and a few notes later that Reba McEntire and Niall Horan decided to get into the game—and Chechi had a four-chair turn!

“"Who are you and what planet did you come from?" Niall exclaims following Chechi's performance. "First of all, anyone who can do a whistle tone, we’re all blown away by. To start a performance and then drop back down into a verse, I wouldn’t even attempt to go anywhere near that note. You set the bar so high for this competition, I can see the finalist in you already. It’s like a ready made star in front of us. I would absolutely love for you to be on Team Niall. You’re a four-chair turn.”

“I totally agree with everything that Niall said,” Reba says. “Your ability to sing is off the charts, but what I love so much is you’re having fun. You’re classy the way you do your hands. There’s a storytelling to when you’re performing. You’re vocals are just insane. I would love to have you on my team.”

“The thing about that whistle tone is sometimes it’s like a one trick pony kind of thing,” John says. “But Chechi, what you really thrilled us with today is the fact that you have so much more to your voice than just that. You look like a star, your energy just felt like you belong on this stage, and you belong on The Voice for a long time, like going all the way to the finale. I would be so excited to work with you to help you take advantage of this amazing gift that you have. It would be an honor for you to be on Team Legend.”

Then it’s Gwen’s turn. She says, “What I loved about you was the love and confidence that you had on stage. You were in complete control of the whole room, and of my heart at the moment. It felt like I was just watching a Grammys performance. I would love to be your coach. I think it would be very exciting. You are so cool. Pick me.”

Then Niall jumped in again saying, “The voices that make the most difference are the ones that make you feel. I’ve got goosebumps right now.”

John interrupted him, “What you’ve got to decide is who you want to work with because we all want to work with you.”

Then, Gwen tells Chechi that John and Niall keep talking because they think if they get the last word in that she will pick them. But Gwen does have one more thing to say. She tells Chechi, “People who have technical, perfect voices like yours, sometimes their uniqueness gets lost. I think one of the things I could help you with is trying to get inside your heart and find the personality so you’re not getting lost in your voice."

Tune in to The Voice on Monday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC to find out who Chechi picks to be her coach.
