If you weren't already counting down the days until the new Mortal Kombat movie, all you need is seven minutes to be fully converted. Warner Bros. Pictures and HBO Max just released the opening scene of the upcoming reboot, and the film's first seven minutes are full of action, gore, and some serious vengeance.
Basically, as one fan commented on the YouTube clip, “This seven minutes feels like my life's most important seven minutes.”
The scene reveals the beginnings of Scorpion and Sub-Zero's epic feud, which is the backbone of the reboot. In the seven-minute slaughterfest, Hanzo Hasashi a.k.a. Scorpion’s life is “forever changed” when his compound is attacked by Bi-Han a.k.a. Sub-Zero. Spoiler alert: Hasashi’s wife and son die, freezing to death by Bi-Han’s chilly ways. But there’s little time to mourn the loss as Hasashi is forced to take on countless masked intruders in a gory, badass martial arts battle. Seriously, the dagger-tied-to-a-rope move is downright sick — and explains where Hasashi gets his signature kunai.
After all Bi-Han’s masked cronies are, well, obliterated, Hasashi confront’s his nemesis, who taunts him in Chinese. Responding in Japanese, Hasashi says, “I may not understand your words, but I promise you this, I will kill you.”
Well, there’s only one thing left to say: “Finish him.”
