Watch: Firefighters Race to Save Elk From Icy Pond in Colorado

They were so brave to try and help!

We were always warned to not step on frozen water when we were growing up because the water might not be frozen all the way through. It could end in disaster if the ice broke and you fell in. The same goes for today. You must always be careful around frozen lakes or ponds. And that goes for animals too.

If we could warn animals, then maybe this elk could have avoided a pond in Evergreen, Colorado altogether. But luckily, a human saw this poor animal fall in and immediately reported the incident. The Evergreen Fire and Rescue team responded quickly and worked on a rescue mission unlike any other. Take a look!

Wow! We're beyond thankful for the firefighters' quick response to rescue the elk and the human's fast acting to report the fall. This just goes to show if we all work together, anything is possible. And we just know this elk is even more thankful.

Facebook user Dawn Somerville Zalfa commented, "Great work! Love our dedicated first responders keeping all of us mountain residents safe!" We'll forever be grateful for the first responders and their dedication to saving both us and the animals. "Amazing sighting, amazing rescue! It was meant to live!" added Georgina Wombacher.

A local TV news station reported that the elk paused for a bit after getting out of the water and then continued on. YAY! May this incident be a fair warning for everyone to stay off the ice. The Evergreen Fire Rescue said if a pet runs out onto the ice, do not go after them. Do what this person did and call 911.
