Warning: MAJOR Jane the Virgin spoilers ahead. If you haven’t watched the Season 4 finale from Friday, April 20th, click away and come back later when you’re all caught up.

Alright, where were we? Oh right, Jane the Virgin. Last we heard, Jane Gloriana Villanueva was completely in love with Rafael Solano. Finally, right? These two lovebirds had a child together far before their relationship was ever truly functional, but for the past few months, it has been! Raf and our Jane have been completely, openly in love, and had even finally found a perfect apartment for the two of them to move into. With their son Mateo, of course. Rafael had even received Jane’s family’s blessing to propose. So exciting, right?

But friends, nothing ever comes easy. Life is full of surprises! Especially on Jane the Virgin. We’ll warn you again that MAJOR spoilers are ahead!

Okay. Michael Cordero, Jane’s first real relationship and husband, passed away five years ago (in show time) due to complications from a gunshot wound. Or did he? In a very shocking twist at the end of the Season 4 finale on April 20th, we learned that MICHAEL IS VERY MUCH NOT DEAD. Straight out of a telenovela, right?!

Though fans are having some extremely conflicted feelings about the twist, the one thing we can all agree on is that the cast’s excitement about the twist precious. The Jane the Virgin cast didn’t know Michael was alive until Brett Dier, the actor who plays him, popped into the room during the table read.

The moment was captured on video and will probably make you cry a little bit.

Jane the Virgin executive producer Jennie Snyder Urman posted the video to Twitter, and it has now been shared by most of the cast. Apparently, the story is that Urman and Gina Rodriguez, who plays the titular role, were the only two aware that Dier was coming back. But based on the video reactions, Rodriguez didn’t necessarily know when that would be.

Urman left out the very last page of the Season 4 finale’s script to surprise the cast.

Because Michael’s role in the finale is only about ten seconds long, it was easy to hide the surprise. The excitement and love among the Jane the Virgin actors is the best, and we are so happy they got to spend time with Dier again. We’re going to assume Dier was just as happy, based on this teaser-y tweet before the episode aired.

Now we REALLY can’t wait for Season 5.

For now, our faces are just about the exact expression of the emoji Rodriguez tweeted.

Is it fall yet?
