Watch Dr. Pimple Popper Treat a Rare 'Eruptive' Hair Cyst in New Video

From Men's Health

• In her newest Instagram video, Dr. Pimple Popper treats an eruptive vellus hair cyst located near the patient's armpit.
• Eruptive vellus hair cysts are rare abnormalities that affect the follicles and are typically seen in children.
• Dr. Pimple Popper treats the cyst using her scalpel, then squeezing the cyst to drain it.

On Friday night, Dr. Pimple Popper helped her fans get the weekend started with a bang, highlighting a rare condition caused by the formation of what are known as eruptive vellus hair cysts. In the short clip, Dr. Pimple Popper—aka, dermatologist and TLC host Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—uses her scalpel to slice into a fold of skin pinched between her fingers, then squeezes out a series of small, almost bug-like formations, as one commenter puts it. She's clearly proud of her work, too, adding in the caption, "Getting out these Eruptive Vellus Hair Cysts is the definition of HARD WORK and Determination!"

It's worth noting that you aren't likely to see many more procedures like this one. As a 2018 study in the International Journal of Trichology points out, vellus hair cysts are "a rare follicular developmental abnormality of the vellus hair follicles." The study author adds that "they are usually seen in children, adolescents, or young adults and manifest as reddish-brown smooth papules—most commonly involving the chest, limbs, and abdomen."

Thankfully for this patient, the means of treating it seems very familiar—a slice, a squeeze, and within a few moments, the problem appears to be resolved. And if you're looking for more ahead of next week's episode, check out this exclusive clip to catch up on last week's developments.

Dr. Pimple Popper is currently airing on TLC on Thursday nights at 9/8 central.
