Watch Dr. Pimple Popper Extract a "Rose Cyst" in Her Latest Popping Video

Dermatologist Sandra Lee, aka Dr. Pimple Popper, just shared her latest extraction video, featuring a "rose" cyst, which is actually an epidermoid cyst.

Leave it to Los Angeles-based dermatologist Sandra Lee (aka Dr. Pimple Popper) to come up with a pleasant metaphor for extracting a cyst. The popping pro called a new video, posted to her Dr. Pimple Popper YouTube channel this week, "A Cyst Rose on the Neck," and let's just say she doesn't mean rose as a verb. Lee is actually comparing freeing the contents of the growth to receiving a beautiful flower. Ooooooook...?

The six-minute video shows Lee slicing open what she calls "a cute little cyst." Specifically, it's an epidermoid cyst, which is a benign growth commonly found on the face, trunk, or neck — the location from which this one is being removed. As she tells the patient, who apparently used to be a patient of Lee's father years ago, that she'll biopsy the cyst to rule out anything else, she squeezes out the macerated keratin (in other words, wet skin cells) in one piece, saying, "It's like a little rose you're givin' us." Pretty ironic considering epidermoid cysts can smell somewhat foul.

Still with me? Here's what you need to know if you think you may have an epidermoid cyst. First of all, it's not weird to have one. They're the most common kind of skin cyst, according to Lee, and they're the result of epidermal cells reproducing within a confined space.

"An epidermoid cyst may have no symptoms and are typically harmless," she writes in the video description. "Usually people seek removal because they don’t like the appearance of these bumps, or the cyst has ruptured or been inflamed or 'infected' in the past." Surgical excision will get rid of it, but only if the cyst is completely removed along with the sac it's in to ensure it won't grow back.

And that's exactly what Lee does for her patient's cyst, stitching up the wound with two sutures after making sure there was nothing left. The dermatologist even showed the curious patient what was a removed, and while she found it interesting, she didn't seem to think there was anything particularly rosy about what came out of her neck.
