How did you spend your quarantine? Doesn't matter—David Beckham spent it better than you. Not content with launching his own Major League Soccer team, Inter Miami, just as the first lockdowns landed, the football star-turned-style maven also teamed up with another embodiment of the marriage between form and function—Maserati, for whom he's the new global ambassador—in a new film that looks rather more fun than sorting out the kitchen cupboards for the 30th time.

Shot by Harmony Korine (yes, Kids director Harmony Korine; he scrubs up nicer than you'd think) the hook-up sees Beckham coming over all fast and furious, performing a series of doughnuts beneath the freeway in Miami with rather more finesse than you'd expect from a man who claims to be unfamiliar with the move. The constant cackle makes us think that he's not quite the amateur he claims to be.

The exclusive behind-the-scenes video above looks like a pretty great way to spend an afternoon, but we're not interested just for automotive reasons. As befits one of Britain's best-dressed exports, Becks steps behind the wheel in an outfit that's as stylish as the car. Tank top + Hawaiian shirt + wide-legged trousers is a fit we've been espousing for a few seasons now, but it feels particularly apt for the (fingers crossed) blazing hot and lockdown-less summer ahead of us, since it's as comfortable as the sweatpants you spent the last year wearing, but it isn't a pair of sweatpants that you've spent an entire year wearing.

It helps when the shirt in question is the season's grail piece—the Saint Laurent Hawaiian shirt that melted the menswear corner of the internet (and the rather larger K-pop corner of the internet) when it first popped up for pre-order back in August last year. It's now available to actually buy, and as Beckham proves, it's the kind of punchy-but-not-shouty hero piece around which entire summer wardrobes are built. Especially if you can accessorize it with an equally graily Italian sports car.
