Watch dad use his newborn’s onesie to pop the question in this TikTok proposal

For Alex Hayes and Lauren Whitney, a life together almost seemed inevitable. Whitney asked Hayes to senior prom and nine years to the day later, the couple was bringing their newborn son home from the hospital. Marriage and children were always on the docket for the pair, but like for many modern couples, the latter happened before the former.

“When I found out I was pregnant, we were both shocked but so excited. Little did I know it throughout my pregnancy, but Alex was devising a plan to complete the equation,” Whitney told The Way We Met. “The day after I gave birth to our son Seamus, the nurses told me they had to take him for a test, but instead, they were helping Alex.”

In the viral TikTok proposal, Hayes puts newborn Seamus in a baby onesie that reads “Mommy, will you marry my daddy?” on the front, with “Say yes!” on the back. Hayes hands the new mother, resting in a chair, their baby and it takes a moment for Whitney to read the message, but when she does, she immediately starts bawling.

“It was the first real outfit I had seen Seamus in, and I was confused because I hadn’t asked them to put anything on him yet,” Whitney explained. “Alex told me to read the onesie and I immediately burst into tears. Then he got down on one knee and in so many words, told me how he knew he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me.”
