Watch: Chris Hemsworth Surfs Frigid Waves in the Arctic

Before Chris Hemsworth and his grapefruit-shaped guns became famous on the big-screen, most notably for playing the Norse god Thor in the Marvel movies, the Australian actor was just a surfer, growing up on southeastern Australia’s Philip Island.

But, despite the spotlight and hectic filming schedule, Hemsworth still surfs. He tandem wake surfs with Kelly Slater; he throws hammers surfing wavepools in the Swiss Alps; he owns many surfboards; and he hangs out with pro surfer turned DJ, Fisher.

And occasionally, he incorporates his love of surfing into his work life. For instance, in his TV show, Limitless, in which he and Mick Fanning went surfing in the arctic, while also exploring the potential health benefits of extreme temperature therapy.

Hemsworth revisited that trip to the arctic with a clip on TikTok recently. (More likely, his press team posted it for him, but whatever.)

And the conditions are, let’s say, less than ideal. It’s blustery, snow on the ground, frigid (even through the screen)…and yet, Hemsworth’s suited up to paddle out.

Fanning and Hemsworth don’t exactly score in the episode, but that’s not really what it’s about. Rather, it’s an exploration into whether or not extreme cold water can positively impact one’s health. Notice all those surfers these days doing ice baths?

Maybe just book a trip to the arctic instead.

Regarding Hemsworth’s love for surfing, in a recent interview for GQ he said:

“There’s a cleansing every time I get in the water. If I’m having some sort of inner conflict or turmoil, it’s the one place I go. There’s a feeling of starting again…“There are far worse addictions out there.”
