  • Brooke Shields shared an ’80s inspired hair tutorial using her original crimper from the decade.

  • “I found my old beauty tools from the #80s …who wants to crimp their hair??” she captioned the post.

  • The actress may be bringing the waves back in style, right behind the now-trending hot-rolled hair of the 90s.

As we all know, fashion and beauty trends are cyclic—what goes around always comes back around. And Brooke Shields may’ve just begun the resurgence of an ’80s staple: crimped hair.

The actress was an ’80s beauty icon (and let’s be real, will always be a beauty icon no matter the decade), and somehow still has the crimper she branded back then (in pristine condition!). So for old time’s sake, she decided to break it out and see if she could still rock the wavy style. (Spoiler alert: She totally can.)

“I found my Brooke Shields hair equipment that we did in the ’80s,” she said in a February 21 Instagram video aptly set to Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” It appears that the lilac-colored set came with a few different wave widths and a mirror. A similar set sold on Ebay for $70 earlier this year.

In her video, Shields proceeded to demonstrate her best crimping technique. “Take smaller sections... try to get it close [to the root],” she said. “That’s the key.” After completing the first section of hair, she admired her work in the mirror, saying: “That’s kind of cool.”

The Blue Lagoon star then remembered how time-consuming crimping an entire head of hair can be, so she began spacing out the waves and ultimately decided to pull hers into a ponytail before adding the finishing touches. “That’s not bad,” she laughed.

The video inspired many—especially those who also lived through the big hair decade. “I remember it well!💯🎉🥴,” one person commented. “Love this. I think I peaked in the 80’s ❤️,” another added. “I had the Brooke Shields blow dryer and it worked for years! I loved it and used it until it died 😅,” someone else wrote.

Crimped hair may or may not make a comeback thanks to Shields, but it’s pretty clear that the whispy strands of the ’90s have. Young TikTokers are experimenting with velcro rollers to achieve the look, and Catherine Zeta-Jones recently noticed.

Earlier this week, she shared a throwback photo of herself sporting a voluminous mane, writing: “Anyone else noticing that fluffy 90s hair is making a comeback?😫”

These blasts from the past surely have you tempted to give your own locks a retro restyling, right? (C’mon—even if it’s just for fun.) Unfortunately, Shields’ original crimper is no longer on the market, but there are plenty of other modern hair tools that can adequately (and safely 😅) transport you back in time.

Just remember to use a heat protectant—which we didn’t have, but most definitely needed 40 years ago.
