Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV premiered on ID on March 17, 2024. The documentary series—which continues with its fifth bonus episode, Breaking the Silence, on April 7, 2024—investigates allegations of a toxic workplace on the sets of children’s television shows during the late 1990s and early 2000s under the helm of Nickelodeon producer Dan Schneider. Moderated by Soledad O’Brien, Breaking the Silence will dive deeper into the alleged abuse, sexism, and racism that plagued series created by Schneider, known for his work on hit series like The Amanda Show, Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, and more.

During its first four episodes, Quiet on Set featured cast members from All That, including Bryan Hearne and Katrina Johnson, who joined director Virgil Fabian to provide insights into the behind-the-scenes culture of the series. The Amanda Show writers Jenny Kilgen and Christy Stratton also exposed claims of toxicity and sexism within the industry, alongside input from various cast, crew, and parents of child actors.

In addition to allegations involving Schneider, the series also included bombshell claims made by former Nickelodeon actor Drake Bell, who alleged that he was sexually abused by dialogue coach Brian Peck between production of the final season of The Amanda Show and the first season of Drake & Josh. Peck was eventually arrested in 2003 on 11 counts of lewd conduct with a minor, and later sentenced to 16 months in prison as a registered sex offender.

Following the first four episodes of the documentary series investigation, Episode 5 of Quiet on Set will see actor Drake Bell return to talk more about the dark side of his time as a child actor—along with new insights into his journey of overcoming the abuse he faced while working on series like The Amanda Show and Drake & Josh. The previously released episodes of Quiet on Set saw Bell identify himself as the person who was sexually assaulted at the age of 15 by Brian Peck, a dialogue coach for the Nickelodeon network, who later went to trial and was convicted of sexually molesting a previously unknown minor.

After sharing his story during the first episodes of Quiet on Set and hearing from fellow survivors, Bell felt it was important to return to discuss his experience. “That’s given him a certain sort of strength and feeling that there is a power in telling your truth, and shedding light and helping other people not feel so alone in that experience,” co-director Emma Schwartz told The Hollywood Reporter. “Because for many years that was how he felt: very, very alone.”

Will there be more episodes of Quiet on Set after Breaking the Silence?

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, co-directors Mary Robertson and Emma Schwartz seem intent to “keeping their cameras rolling” and continuing the Quiet on Set investigative series. “We’re devoted to telling this story. We’re passionate about telling the story,” Robertson told the publication on April 4, 2024. “We don’t think we’re done telling this story.” While it’s unclear when new episodes may premiere, we’ll be first to update you on the details once we know more.
