When a supermodel from Rio Grande do Sul shares a DIY beauty tip—Gisele Bündchen, Alessandra Ambrosio, Raquel Zimmermann all come from Brazil’s southernmost state—you listen. But when fellow veteran model and Brazilian native Caroline Trentini reveals two low-maintenance, at-home treatments, both of which are designed to make you appear fresh off the beach? It’s best to drop everything. “Are you ready for this?” Trentini whips, her sun-drenched blonde strands tucked neatly into a low chignon to reveal a smattering of freckles.

First up: a freshly made face mask that requires five minutes of preparation and four ingredients—avocado; pure, unsweetened acai; squished strawberries; and honey. “Us Brazilians love to have a tan,” she says as she mixes everything into a palm-size bowl, “but after the sun, your skin is tired, and you want to have a glow, so this is going to help a lot.” After massaging the chunky brown-tinted emollient evenly across her face and neck with her fingertips (“I use my hands to apply makeup, lipstick, everything—as a mom, I like to be hands-on,” says the mother of two), Trentini moves onto her hair.

“When you do your groceries, just buy a little extra, for your beauty routine,” she advises as she shakes a bottle full of homemade sea salt spray, which contains sea salt and a dash of coconut oil mixed with warm water. Applying it only to the bottom half of her lengths, and careful not to let the coconut oil get too close to her roots, Trentini then divides her hair into two sections and twists each piece away from her face and into a small bun. “If I eat right, I like for my skin and hair to eat right, too,” says the model, who observes a mostly plant-based diet.

After 10 minutes and a quick samba, Trentini washes her face and pats it down with a clean, white towel. Now that her skin “is ready to drink,” she massages a bit of face oil across the T-zone areas before dabbing off any excess, so to not appear too glowing, and applying berry-pink lipstick on her lips and cheeks, and concealer under the eyes and around the nose—“because we all need concealer,” she says of her light, off-the-beach makeup routine. Now it’s time for the big reveal, and sure enough, with her lengths shaken softly loose, Trentini looks picture-perfect on a hot summer’s day in New York City. “Tchau!” she says, blowing a kiss to the audience. Proof that, yes, summertime beauty can be that easy—just look inside your kitchen pantry.
