This afternoon, Max and TNT sports announced the list of live cycling events that will be streaming to Max subscribers via the B/R Sports Add-On, giving cycling fans in the U.S.A. access to live broadcasts of over 300 international road, track, mountain bike, and cyclocross races.

The calendar is basically a carbon copy of what was offered by Global Cycling Network’s GCN+ streaming service, which was shuttered in mid-December after the network and its accompanying streaming platform were purchased by Warner Bros. Discovery, which also owns Max. That’s fine with us, as GCN+ was our favorite streaming service (mainly due to the transparent number of events it covered)–and we were devastated when its closing was announced.

Which races will stream on Max?

Coverage begins on February 8th, 2024 with the second edition of the 4-day UAE Tour Women, the only race in the Middle East on the UCI’s Women’s WorldTour. There’s something to watch almost every day of the month, including late-season events in the Superprestige series (which should include our first glimpse of the sport’s new world champions), Portugal’s Volta Algarve (a important early season event for grand tour and Classics riders), and some of the opening races on the Belgian race calendar including Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne and Le Samyn.

Max subscribers with the B/R Sports Add-On will also have exclusive access to races organized by RCS, the Italian company that puts on important events like Strade Bianche, Tirreno-Adriatico, Milan-Sanremo, and the Giro d’Italia. And this is just the beginning: the list of races included in today’s announcement is expected to grow as race dates and events are confirmed for later in the year.

Even better than just being able to stream these live broadcasts–many of which will feature contributions from former riders like two-time Tour de France winner Alberto Contador, former World Road Race champion Philippe Gilbert, 24-time Grand Tour stage winner Robbie McEwen, and 17-year ex-pro and fan favorite Jens Voigt–fans will also be able to enjoy “The Breakaway”, an English-language show that offers pre- and post-race coverage of select events, with contributions from the sport’s best pundits.

How to I sign up to watch racing on Max?

Max offers several plans to choose from starting at $9.99 per month, and the B/R Sports Add-On costs another $9.99 per month (which also includes coverage of other live sports content including MLB, NHL, NBA, NCAA Men’s March Madness, U.S. Soccer, 24 Hours of Le Mans).

That’s not quite the value that GCN+ was ($49.99 per year), but when you consider everything else that you’re getting (including all the movies and TV shows that Max offers plus the other sports that come with the B/R Sports Add-On), the additional cost is a bit more palatable.

Wait...it's free?

And here’s the best part: the B/R Sports Add-On is FREE for the time being.

When it was first announced last fall, the Add-On was made free to Max subscribers during a promotional period that was expected to end on March 1st. But earlier this month, Deadline first reported that the free promotional period will be extended for “several months” as the network works on some “tech integrations.”

That means a Max subscription could get you free cycling coverage through May’s Giro d’Italia, an incredible opportunity to test out the service while enjoying some of the most important races during the first half of the season. To us, that makes the monthly Max subscription worth the price of admission–and if you don’t like it, you can always cancel after the Giro.

But we don’t think you will.
