Watch: Big Wave Surfer Kai Lenny Spills the Beans About His Taco Bell Award

It all began with a bean burrito.

That sounds like the beginning of a story about an eating contest rather than a ripped athlete at the height of his career.

Instead, it's the story of how big wave surfer Kai Lenny won a Bell Award for the “Best Live Más Moment” at Taco Bell's Live Más Live event in Las Vegas last week. How and why? You gotta watch him "spill the beans" in the video below.

Captioned his latest vlog above, Lenny wrote: "How I Won a Taco Bell Award!"

Opens the video, he says:

"You're probably wondering, 'How did I get here?' Well, this is how it happened."

The vlog flashes to Lenny at a Taco Bell drive-thru ordering 30 bean burritos and one grilled cheese steak burrito for a day trip to Jaws.

"Thirty bean burritos because we got a whole team and everyone else in the water who always wants a burrito," he says to the camera.

He pays with a stack of Taco Bell gift cards he got for Christmas, another sign of his dedication to the fast food chain.

Later in his Las Vegas hotel room before the awards Lenny explains:

"I never thought in my wildest dreams I'd be recognized for my commitment to Taco Bell.

"This is the pinnacle of my career right now. I've been working towards this since I was four years old eating a bean burrito in the back of my dad's car."

But the path to the big moment all began back in 2019 when Lenny was competing in the World Surf League’s Big Wave Tour event at Jaws.

In the water, Dave Wassell asked Lenny:

“What’s going on inside your belly? What’re you feeding this machine today?”

Lenny answered: “I just had a pretty good bean burrito before I went out and I think that's why I did better in my first heat.

“Bean burritos from Taco Bell hit the spot. I just feel so content. Actually right after this interview, I’m gonna go and have another one.”
