Watch Arnold Schwarzenegger's Son Joseph Baena Rep Through a Solid Set of Back Squats

From Men's Health

Joseph Baena has clearly inherited a love for bodybuilding from his dad, bodybuilder-turned-action movie legend Arnold Schwarzenegger. Take one look at his social media, and it's clear he doesn't skimp on the gym.

He's showed off his various workouts, which include everything from upright barbell rows, his arm day workout, his back workout, and some of the results (like some serious chest gains.) Baena's latest session features some barbell back squats for leg day. He works through the set of 275 pounds with solid form.

"Happy with the improvements I’ve made in the last couple months! Legs getting thicker and stronger. Let keep it going!" he captioned the video.

Baena's lifting belt is emblazoned with a quote: "No matter what." This is a reference to Pumping Iron, the classic bodybuilding documentary featuring Baena's father. In one scene, Schwarzenegger spots Ed Corney through a set of squats and encourages him to finish his final two reps, no matter what. Once Corney finishes, Schwarzenegger tells him to flex once he comes up from under the weight.

Baena clearly watched his old man's work. Once he finished through his 6 reps, he flashes a biceps flex, looks at the camera and says, "Good one!"

Notably, Baena doesn't get tripped up by the fundamentals of the exercise. He shows off good back squat form, working within a comfortable range of motion, without cheating through any of the reps. According to Men's Health fitness director Ebenezer Samuel, C.S.C.S., perfect back squat form starts in how you lower yourself down under the weight.

"Think of sitting back, not sitting down. Bend at the knees as you push your butt back. Do this right, and you'll also avoid what's known as 'butt wink,' a rounding of your lower back that can lead to lower back issues in the future," he says.

Baena did this, and kept his weight in his heels.

"Throughout the squat, think of keeping your weight in your heels, both as you sit back and as you stand up. This will help you sit back properly," says Samuel.
