There’s a lot to be excited about when it comes to this year’s men’s and women’s editions of the race that launches us into Ardennes classics week. That race is, of course, Amstel Gold.

It’s a race that has the perfect recipe for fans, which makes sense given it was created by a pair of sports promoters to be the Dutch answer to the Belgian classics.

Despite the Netherlands being a country without a lot of elevation change, Amstel Gold has climbs. Many, many short, wicked little climbs (33 for the men and 17 for the women). Amstel Gold is also long (253.6K for the men and 156K for the women) and finishes with a sprint (fireworks for everyone!).

This year we may even know who won right away if it comes down to another thrilling photo finish as it has the last two years when the winner was almost too close to call, since organizers have allegedly made tech improvements.

How to watch 2023 Amstel Gold

If you’ll be watching Amstel Gold in the U.S. on Sunday, April 16, the race is on FloBikes, which will be broadcasting both races live as well as have them available for replay. The women’s race will begin at 7 a.m. ET and the men’s race will begin at 8:45 a.m. ET.

However, with the abysmal track record that FloBikes has for giving equal (or frankly, eleven decent) coverage to women’s racing, how much of the Amstel Gold women’s race we’ll be able to actually see will be a mystery until Sunday.

Who we’re watching

Everyone is already excited that Tadej Pogačar (UAE) will continue his epic classics campaign with an appearance at Amstel Gold for the first time in four years. And he is of course one of the favorites for a win, as he is in any race he's on his calendar so far this season.

However, Tom Pidcock (Ineos-Grenadiers) has shown us all how well-suited he is for brutally hard one-day races (ahem, Strade Bianche, anyone?). Seeing these two battle it out on Sunday is going to make for some exciting racing, which we've had an embarrassment of riches of this season—and it's not even TdF time yet.

On the women’s side we (along with the rest of the world) will be watching out for Paris-Roubaix Femmes winner Alison Jackson (EF Education-Tibco-SVB), who is officially one of the breakout stars this season after her win in the prestigious ‘Queen of the Classics.’

We’re also looking forward to seeing the return of last year’s winner Marta Cavalli (FDJ-Suez). The rider has been recovering from the lingering after-effects of an brutal crash in last year’s Tour de France Femmes that have been haunting her this season.
