Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris have a lot in common. Both are soccer champs that play for the U.S. Women's National Soccer Team and the Orlando Pride. Both were born in the mid-'80s. Both are nearing one million followers each on Instagram. Both appear on the August 2020 cover of Allure. And they just happen to be married to each other.
Another thing Krieger and Harris share is a fondness for beauty rituals. And considering the two dated for a nearly a decade before getting married last year, it's safe to assume they know quite a bit about each other's respective regimens — or is it? Allure invited the couple to be the first participants in a new series called Beauty Drill, in which partners are put to the test about each other's beauty and wellness routines.
When it comes to dental care, it's pretty easy for Krieger and Harris to guess which toothbrushes and toothpaste the other uses because they use the same ones. (For the record, they use the same kind of toothbrush — a Sonicare. They don't share a toothbrush.) But skin-care routines pose a bigger challenge.
Krieger correctly guesses the two cleansers Harris alternates between and sometimes mixes — one by Glytone and one by Alastin — but Harris is taken aback when Krieger falsely suggests that she uses a retinol formula in her routine. She gets back on track, however, when she correctly guesses that Harris uses Skinbetter Rejuvenate Even Tone Correcting Serum. (But that was easy considering Krieger uses the same one for her melasma.)
Harris is pretty confident that she's got Krieger's morning routine memorized. "She loves to wake up in the morning with a fresh wipe — wipe her face with Cetaphil," Harris says, referring to Krieger's love for the brand's Gentle Skin Cleansing Cloths. There's also no doubt in her mind that Krieger applies Aquaphor as lip balm.
"I'm trying to think what else," Harris says, followed by an exasperated, "God, there's so many." But she manages to remember that Krieger loves to mist on a little Caudalie Beauty Elixir. But just when Harris is sure she knows which two sunscreens Krieger switches between — an EltaMD pick and Alastin's HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen — Krieger gets her with a nutmeg and mentions her love of an Avene sunscreen, too.
After Harris and Krieger easily rattling off each other's go-to hair products for their game buns — both use Bumble and Bumble's Dryspun Texture Spray, Strong Finish Firm Hold Hairspray, and Sumo Liquid Wax (they're both ambassadors for the brand) — the couple moves onto deodorant. Krieger can't name Harris's pick, but that's OK because neither can Harris. There's a moment of tension when Krieger accuses Harris of previously wearing Old Bay (she meant Old Spice, thank goodness), but everything calms down when Harris is able to easily recall that Krieger wears a Degree antiperspirant.
The one thing that totally stumped Harris: Krieger's signature scent. "Well, I’m the worst wife," she says when she can't come up with Calvin Klein Women. Krieger had no problem guessing Harris's, though: Louis Vuitton L'Immensité.
Both did a very impressive job remembering all of these products and more — they talk concealer, acne-fighting moisturizer, and more — but you can find out who had the most right answers by watching the whole video.
