Serena Williams is retiring from tennis, and set to play the US Open for one last time. Williams has won the Grand Slam tournament in singles six times—her last victory came in 2014. She also won the US Open doubles tournament twice (both with her sister, Venus), and the mixed double's title once.
The US Open is the biggest event on the American tennis calendar, and it makes sense that Williams, surely the greatest American tennis star of our generation, is choosing to play the Open as her final goodbye to the sport she's dominated for decades.
The 2022 tournament begins Monday, August 29, and runs through Sunday, September 11. The women's singles finals take place September 10, and the men's singles finals on September 11.
Many American tennis players are expected to go deep in the tournament, including Taylor Fritz, Coco Gauff, and more. And of course, the whole world will be rooting for Williams as she plays the last tennis tournament of her career.
Here's how to watch the US Open:
ESPN has the broadcast rights to the tournament in the United States. As multiple matches typically take place at the same time, especially during the earlier rounds, ESPN typically airs multiple channels of the tennis tournament. However, the marquee matches will take place on ESPN and ESPN2, which comes with most cable subscriptions, and other matches may be broadcast on ESPN3 and stream on ESPN+.
