How to Watch the 2018 Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony Online

Here's how to watch the 2018 Winter Olympics opening ceremony online, what time the opening ceremony begins, and where to watch.

The Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang will kick off on Friday, February 9 in South Korea. Fans who traveled to see the events live will face very, very cold temperatures, so we’re happy to tell you here that it is entirely possible to watch the 2018 Winter Olympics opening ceremony online. There might even be a chance to see some legendary K-pop acts during the festivities (we’re crossing our fingers for BTS!).

The theme of the opening ceremony is Peace in Motion, giving us a break from recent charged-up rhetoric regarding the region—fitting for an event in which South Korea and North Korea have agreed to march under one flag, as well as present a united women’s ice hockey team. According to ABC, "Few details have been released about the show. But organizers revealed the story theme of the event last month; the opening ceremony will emphasize peace by following the fairytale-like adventures of five imaginary children from Gangwon province with a cast of thousands of other performers." Yang Jung-woong, the executive producer of the ceremony, said that "the stage will unfold like a winter fairytale depicting the children's adventure."

Absent from the ceremony and the games will be Russia, which was banned from competing after it was discovered to have systematically doped its athletes at the 2014 Sochi Games. But there are still at least 168 “Olympic Athletes from Russia” competing in the games under a neutral Olympic flag.

We’ll be on the lookout for Team USA’s heated parkas, designed by Ralph Lauren for the Olympic and Paralympic athletes. And we’ll need to be able to catch the biggest event in the games from home to do so. Find everything you’ll need to know to watch the 2018 Winter Olympics opening ceremony online and more:
