Another suspected shark bite took place on Oahu over the weekend.

Hawaii News Now (HNN) reporter Eddie Dowd recounts the incident in the video above:

"Honolulu Ocean Safety says they responded to a possible shark bite around 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

"Officials say an 11-year-old girl may have been bitten on her left foot and a three to four-foot shark was spotted in the Ka’a’awa area."

According to the report, the child suffered non-life-threatening injuries and her parents "declined EMS transport to an emergency room."

Following the incident, the county posted warning signs in the area alerting beachgoers of the shark sighting.

The girl's mother spoke out in the comments of HNN's Instagram post:

"Unfortunately it was my daughter & it could’ve been worse.

"She kicked the shark (approximately 3ft) & luckily it let go.

"She had lacerations to the top & bottom of her foot that needed to be stitched up. Thankfully it wasn’t life-threatening"

Dowd said that according to Hawaii's shark incident website, this is the state's first shark encounter of 2024.

In "Sharktober," 50-year-old Kauai resident Kevin Kanehe was attacked by a "12 to 15-foot" tiger shark while surfing The Bowl at Hanalei Bay. Also in October, a surfer from Spain suffered an apparent shark bite on his thigh at the North Shore's Pua’ena Point

Shortly after, a surfer died following a shark attack on Maui at Pāʻia Bay in December.
