Washington Ski Resort Issues Warning Amid Heavy Storm: "Anticipate Disruptions"

Between now and Wednesday morning, a blizzard warning is in effect for Stevens Pass, Washington.

The development prompted the resort to make a cautionary Instagram post yesterday, stating that its clientele should "anticipate disruptions" over the coming days.

"We're doing what we can to prepare, but we anticipate variable conditions both on the road and on the mountain as we navigate this storm," Stevens Pass wrote. "If you are planning to join us, please anticipate disruptions tomorrow and Wednesday."

The resort recommended that those planning to ski this week load their cars with survival kits, water, flashlights, and food, alongside noting that the heavy snowfall and high winds could impact lift operations.

Despite the challenging weather conditions, Stevens Pass opened multiple lifts after a delayed start today. However, the resort closed early due to a closure on Highway 2. Stevens Pass anticipates opening as scheduled tomorrow, and advised local skiers to "Stay tuned for additional updates."

According to NOAA, the resort could receive two or more feet of snow between this afternoon and tonight.

The widespread storm conditions are anticipated to remain in Washington for the duration of this week. Other resorts in the state, like Crystal Mountain, Mt. Baker, and The Summit at Snoqualmie, are expecting multiple feet of snow.

On Twitter this morning, the Washington Department of Transportation (WSDOT) wrote, "Please consider delaying trips today if possible due to extremely challenging travel conditions."

It's valuable advice. If you're a Washington resident, avoiding mountain passes until later this week is probably your safest bet.
