Warmest Winter on Record Calls For Australian Resorts To Close Earlier Than Ever

The country of Australia has reportedly claimed this past winter as their warmest winter on record across the continent. The national mean temperature was 1.53 degrees above the long-term average for the country as a whole. The Bureau of Meteorology's Seasonal Summary for winter 2023 revealed that maximums across Australia were 1.85 degrees above average, while minimums were 1.21 degrees above average. Several ski areas closed on this past Monday, September 4th, and many more are set to close after this weekend including most areas of Perisher resort, Mt. Baw Baw, and Selwyn Snow Resort among others.

Perisher Resort, located in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, Australia, is the Southern Hemisphere's largest ski resort. It boasts over 1,245 hectares of skiable terrain, with 47 lifts and 7 mountain peaks. Known for its reliable snowfall, it offers excellent skiing and snowboarding opportunities during the winter season. The resort also features a range of accommodation options, restaurants, and winter activities, making it a popular destination for snow sports enthusiasts.
