Irish TTRPG studio Cubicle7 announced that it’s currently developing a Warhammer: The Old World role-playing game. The Old World is the latest miniature tabletop war game released by Games Workshop and brought back the previously canned Warhammer Fantasy setting – in large part due to video games like Total War: Warhammer and Vermintide raising its popularity.

It looks like Cubicle7 is ready to take advantage of all the excitement around The Old World with a representative stating: “Exploring a new era with Warhammer: The Old World is an honor and a privilege. As huge fans of the classic Warhammer setting we’re thrilled to be working with Games Workshop on the new chapter of such a beloved setting.”

Cubicle7 has lots of experience when it comes to the grimdark fantasy universe: It publishes Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying, Age of Sigmar: Soulbound, Warhammer 40,000: Imperium Maledictum, and Warhammer 40,000: Wrath and Glory. The company emphasized that its work on a The Old World RPG wouldn’t negatively affect the continued development of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying: “Fans of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay can rest assured it will continue as its own game line, with many, many releases already scheduled for the coming years.”

It did not divulge any details about the ruleset and system the Warhammer: The Old World RPG will use just yet, so fans will have to remain patient.

Warhammer: The Old World is a blast from the past in many ways: Its rules are heavily inspired by the original Warhammer Fantasy Battles, but time-wise it goes even further back than fans are used to from the setting. Warhammer Fantasy ended its story in the year 2528 with the End Times, which literally destroyed the world to make way for Age of Sigmar. The Old World doesn’t change the world’s fate of eventually being destroyed, but simply explores a period prior to the apocalypse as it’s set between 2276 and 2301 – and that’s not a boring timeframe, mind you.

You’ve got the Tomb Kings pushing northwards into the lands of the Border Princes, a Chaos horde descending from the north, and the usual troubles created by Vampire Counts, Skaven, Greenskins, and all the other baddies the world has to offer. It’s a ripe setting to have exciting adventures in.
