Want to own a Disney Fort Wilderness log cabin? Act fast. Florida company has some left

James Robert "J.R." Morrison’s phone is ringing nonstop.

The Brevard businessman is selling a hot commodity many people want to purchase: Disney’s Fort Wilderness Cabins. The Disney campground, which has a massive following, is getting a makeover – old cabins are slowly being replaced with brand new ones.

Morrison’s Brevard-based company, Florida Manufactured Home Sales, and an Orlando-based company were given the rights to purchase a total of 300 of the older cabins from Disney. Morrison got 100 of them while the Orlando company got 200.

Social media has been a buzz since these beloved log cabins were made available to purchase. Here are some answers to some of the questions swirling out there.

The Orlando-based company sold out of its allotment. Morrison, on the other hand, still has about 40 cabins available.

The price has increased by $10,000 to $59,900. A deposit of $1,500 is required to secure a cabin.

Morrison is getting the cabins in installments from Disney, about 10 at a time. The final shipment is expected in December.

What are the details of the Disney log cabins for sale?

The cabins were bult in 1998 or 2001 and have since undergone renovations. They are just under 500-square-feet and contain a bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living space.

Aside from purchasing an iconic piece of Disney history, buyers also get all the themed furniture – queen size bed and twin bunkbeds, complete with mattresses, kitchen table and chairs and sofa bed. Also thrown in – televisions, light fixtures, appliances like a toaster coffee maker, refrigerator and stove. Even the bible in the bedroom nightstand.

There are touches of Disney throughout the cabin, from the spot on the front door to place a Magicband to Disney-themed toiletry bottles attached to the bathtub wall to a sign inside a closet addressed to “Walt Disney World Resort Hotel Guests” with safety information.

Morrison has big, actually tiny, plans for when the Disney log cabins sell out

Morrison started as a businesses owner in the mobile home world back when he was 18. He had a decades-old successful career that included deals with the government and Disney.

The father of two and grandfather was enjoying semi-retirement when he was presented the opportunity to purchase the Disney cabins.

“I knew that obviously Disney has a huge fan base, but as far as the overwhelming response, it’s like wow,” Morrison said. “We’re having lots of people who have to have one.”

He estimated about 60% to 70% of people interested are Disney fans. The rest are people who appreciate the look and layout of the cabin, which got Morrison thinking.

“I plan on going into the tiny home business and recreate the magic you see in the tiny homes,” Morrison told FLORIDA TODAY. “Obviously they won’t be authentic but we will recreate the look and the style you see in these.”
