Want fresh produce? Farmers' markets are open in Monroe and surrounding counties

Farm-fresh, locally grown, just prepared: Area farmers' markets have plenty of fruits, vegetables, plants, meats, eggs, dairy, crafts and ready-to-consume goods. Some area markets opened for the season in April and others are opening this month. Here's a list of where you can pick through the produce, buy some herbs or take home a bouquet of flowers.

Bloomington Community Farmers’ Market

It's the 50th year of the Bloomington Community Farmers' Market, which is open 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturdays at 401 N. Morton St. Vendors include farmers selling fruits, vegetables, plants, honey, eggs, meat, prepared food, coffee, tea, popcorn and more. There's live music, and sometimes arts and crafts for sale. Woolery Farmers’ Market

The Woolery Farmers' Market is open 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays at the Woolery Mill, 2250 W. Sunstone Drive. It's the fifth season for the market that has vendors selling fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, coffee, tea, doggy treats, fermented foods, baked items, prepared foods, eggs, meats, flowers, wild salmon and plants. People's Cooperative Market

The People's Cooperative Market is open Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at 2420 E. Third St. The market now offers an online CSA store that's open every day. Deliveries are made before 2 p.m. Saturdays. For more, go to www.peoplesmarketbtown.org.

Smithville Farmers' Market

The Smithville Farmers' Market has its first day of the 2024 season on May 4. The market at 7555 S. Strain Ridge Road, is open 8 a.m. to noon Saturdays. In addition to produce from farmers, there will be hot biscuits and gravy, Quarrymen Coffee, Ginger Nest Bakery, 48 Farms sourdough, and plenty of other items, including crafts.

Owen County Farmers’ Market

The Owen County Farmers' Market's season starts May 4 and will be open 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturdays through Sept. 28. The market is at the corner of Ind. 46 and Short Street in Spencer. There's live music during each market. Vendors offer fresh produce, baked goods, flowers, honey, maple syrup, fudge, mushrooms, crafts, eggs, handmade candles and soaps, handmade crafts, fire-roasted hatch chilis and more.

Gosport Farmers' Market

Now starting its second year, the Gosport Farmers' Market has vendors selling plant starts, eggs, locally grown produce, home-baked goods, teas, herbs, candles, handmade items and more. The market opened for the season on Tuesday, April 23 and will be open 3-6 p.m. Tuesdays through Oct. 8. Find out more on the Gosport Farmers Market Facebook page or on Instagram.
