If You Want to Work for Chip And Joanna, You Have to Fit These 3 Criteria

From Good Housekeeping

You may no longer be able to spend your Tuesday evenings with Chip and Joanna after their hit HGTV show wraps up in early 2018, but there may be an even better way to get your Fixer Upper fix. If spending 40+ hours a week with the Gaineses sound like your idea of a good time, then you may want to consider going after a job within the Magnolia empire.

Given the thousands of applications the Gaineses see these days, it's safe to say that Magnolia jobs are highly competitive. The entrepreneurs tell us that one way they narrow down their candidate pool is by looking for a few key qualities in potential hires. Of course, the number one requirement is loving all things Magnolia and Fixer Upper, but if you also value customer service, creativity, and integrity, then you'll likely be a great fit for one of the 27 positions currently open at Magnolia Market, Magnolia Bakery, Magnolia Table, and other Magnolia endeavors. Here are the top three things that will make Chip and Jo say "you're hired!"

1. Appreciation for the customer

One of the most important qualities Chip and Jo say they look for in an employee is an appreciation for the customer. "One of the biggest things we tell our employees is that this is an experience-it's really about valuing people's time and making sure we're making the best of it," Joanna tells CountryLiving.com."We want people to not only feel inspired, but feel like we really value the time that they spent with us."

2. Passion and a creative spirit

Chip and Joanna also like to hire people who love what they do and have a desire to be creative, so if that sounds like you, let 'em know! According to the Gaineses, "passion" and "people that are creative" tend to stand out in their eyes.

3. Strong values and character

But more than anything, it all comes down to character. "In a perfect world, they're perfectly qualified and they've got amazing character but if we had to make a concession, we would always choose to concede their qualifications over their character," Chip tells CountryLiving.com. "If you were going to work for Magnolia, we would expect you to want to serve people and we would want you to do that with a high level of integrity."

The Gaineses also revealed that they love seeing application materials that stand out from the crowd and show your understanding of the brand. "We've seen thousands of resumes and it's really fun to see those resumes that really stand out," Chip said. "There's something fun about someone who's willing to spend a little extra time to do something that's unique."
