WandaVision's Paul Bettany knows it's not exactly fair to complain about sitting in hair and make-up, but the Marvel hero has had a pretty rough time of it in that department.

Bettany, who plays Vision in the brand new Disney+ series, has revealed the extensive process behind turning himself red, telling Digital Spy and other media that the transformation has taken its toll on his skin.

After distancing himself from the "complaining actor" stereotype, Paul gave in to questions about the time and work it takes to embody Vision, calling it a "brutal" part of the series.

"I hate talking about things like this, because you always sound like a complaining actor. I’m not working in a mine, for example. And I'm not a nurse in a hospital right now, for that matter, so it's hard to talk about the discomfort of a costume and make-up, but I will," he said.

Admitting that the process of putting the heavy make-up on isn't "very interesting," Paul said that it's the removal that's a challenge.

"It's harder to get off and a lot of damage is done from taking it off, which is usually fine if you are working two or three days a week – but your skin gets tattered if you are working six days a week..."

To help soothe Paul's "tattered" skin, the Marvel series crafted a make-shift "tiny mobile sauna" to speed up the art of de-Visioning. "At the end of the night, I would get into this little magical cupboard and I would sit in there with a beer," Paul explained.

"I'd be fully dressed in robes with hot towels over my head and I'd sit in there for half an hour to try and sweat the make-up off. And even if I didn't sweat the make-up off, it lifted it enough that it was much easier to get off my face." The more you know.

WandaVision is available to stream on Disney+, with new episodes premiering every Friday.
