'WandaVision' Gave Us a Pietro Answer We Didn't Really Want

The WandaVision finale gave some clarity on our fake Pietro Maximoff—and it's not what fans wanted to hear.
"Pietro Maximoff," in reality, was just a guy named Ralph Bohner.
"Ralph Bohner," then, is the "Ralph" that Agnes/Agatha Harkness has been referring to for the duration of the series.
Well. Looks like we're going to have to put our multiverse hopes and dreams on hold—for now. The WandaVision finale, titled "The Series Finale," answered a big question about the Pietro Maximoff the series included, and it didn't exactly go the direction fans had been hoping. Namely? Well, we didn't get any sort of X-Men crossover confirmation. Instead, we found out that "Pietro Maximoff," who had been controlled by Agatha Harkness for the latter half of the series, was actually just a resident of Westview, NJ named Ralph Bohner.
That's right. Despite being played by Evan Peters, who played a version of the character known as Peter Maximoff in four of Fox's X-Men films, the MCU is now telling us that the fake, Agatha-controlled Pietro was actually just a bro named Ralph. Uh, so, no big major crossover is happening here just yet.
And while it isn't the massive twist/crossover that we expected it to be, it does remain consistent with the series. Remember that throughout the episodes, Agnes referred to her unseen husband as Ralph. Many theorized that "Ralph" could be the introduction of Mephisto—a Marvel villain, typically the universe's take on the Devil—but that was yet another incorrect theory; Ralph, as it turns out, was just a dude looking to chill. Oh well.
This Ralph Bohner, in fact, looks like he's...an actor? Monica found some documents with his name on them, including a headshot (with what looks like a younger actual Evan Peters headshot?)
That's not to say that this "Ralph Bohner" definitely isn't Peter Maxmioff/Quicksilver. Let's also remember why FBI Agent Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) made his way to Westview in the first place: he was checking up with someone in the witness protection program. That seems like a pretty good reason for someone who's made their way through the multiverse—say, from one cinematic universe to another—to be in hiding, with different documents and a new identity. Maybe Jimmy is in on it, maybe he's not. But that seems like a definite possibility; the idea of someone in the witness protection program wasn't just thrown in for no reason.
It's also possible that Agatha fabricated some documents, creating an identity when she pulled Peter from the multiverse into the MCU? Remember, we did get a whole fake ad about Nexus, which almost exclusively ties Wanda to being a Nexus Being and thus being one of the most powerful interdimensional beings.
But let's be real—it's not looking good for this theory. Most likely? Marvel Studios knew that fans were going to be on the lookout for big, massive, crossover potential. And casting Evan Peters as this false version of Pietro ("Pietro") was a great way to tease fans and have a little bit of fun. Even if he turned out to just be Ralph Bohner—not exactly a name deep with superhero lore and history.
Peters' Peter Maximoff was one of the best parts of the later Fox X-Men movies, and the idea that he could return and cross over was an exciting one for fans to latch onto. And even if they meant it as a joke, there's always the chance that Kevin Feige and company could see how excited fans were, and figure out a way to make it work. After all, the groundwork is clearly already there. The next Doctor Strange movie is literally titled and the Multiverse of Madness, after all—there's a lot of potential in that title. We'll just have to wait and see.
