WanaBana Fruit Puree Recalled Nationwide Due to Excessive Lead Levels

WanaBana has just issued a recall on their pouches of Apple Cinnamon Fruit Puree, following an Food & Drug Administration (FDA) investigation for extremely high concentrations of lead.
Lead is highly toxic and consuming the heavy metal can affect people of all ages and health statuses. Short-term exposure to lead can cause symptoms like headache, abdominal pain and vomiting, while longer-term exposure could result in feelings of fatigue, muscle aches, constipation and more. It can be especially dangerous for infants, children and those who are pregnant.

This recall is following a North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services investigation regarding four children with elevated blood lead levels, indicating acute lead toxicity. If you believe you or your children may have consumed this product, contact your health care provider immediately and seek a blood test.
The affected fruit puree can be found in WanaBana’s 2.5-oz. pouches, which were distributed nationwide through several retailers, including Sam’s Club, Amazon and Dollar Tree. All lot codes and expiration dates of this product are recalled as part of this notice.
