Now that fall is in full swing and the holidays are right around the corner, it’s time to dust off the old recipe book and dig up some classic fall recipes. And while there are plenty of ways to cook up a festive meal for yourself and the whole family, it would be difficult to do so without having some trusted cookware at your disposal.

Having tools like a quality Dutch oven this time of year pretty much becomes a necessity when cooking for the entire family. Whether you’re attempting to prepare a hot beef stew, creamy mac and cheese or a delicious pot roast, chances are, a Dutch oven will yield far better results than your average pot.

So if you’re looking to get yourself — or a family member — an early Christmas present, consider looking no further than the Pioneer Woman 2-Quart Enamel-on-Cast Iron Pumpkin Dutch Oven available now at Walmart. Available in either orange or linen, this unique Dutch oven features a festive pumpkin shape, making this piece double perfectly as a beautiful seasonal tabletop centerpiece. The autumnal tone of the orange color fits perfectly with the pumpkin stem-shaped accent knob, making the $24.97 price point an absolute shocker.

Considering the Pioneer Woman Dutch Oven is a direct copycat of the Le Creuset Pumpkin Cocotte, let's consider the similarities in both quality and price. For starters, both the Pioneer Woman and Le Creuset pieces are oven safe up to 500°F. Each features an enameled cast iron construction which aids in the ability to retain and distribute heat exceptionally well. Both pieces are safe to use on gas, electric and induction stove-tops, as well as the grill and oven.

The ergonomic knobs and handles on each piece are designed for easy lifting and transportation, and their cast iron construction makes both easy as pie to wash. However, the Le Creuset is a 4-quart piece, making it twice the size of the Pioneer Woman alternative. Additionally, it's recommended that you hand wash the Pioneer Woman option, whereas the Le Creuset is, in fact, dishwasher safe.

So, besides the main differences being size, price and a couple of small aesthetic details, saving yourself nearly $340 does not sound all that bad considering the Pioneer Woman Dutch Oven is actually a great piece. Yes, as goes for most things in life, you get what you pay for. But taking a chance on the Pioneer Woman has rarely led anyone down the wrong path.

And, all things considered, when deciding where to start when upgrading your kitchen this year, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go with a more affordable alternative before spending a few hundred dollars in one pop.
