Walmart Just Recalled 3 Products: Salsa, Pie And Sausage
Walmart recently issued three product recalls for customers to be aware of, including one Frito-Lay salsa, a frozen shepherd’s pie meal, and ready-to-eat pork sausage links. These recalls could pose potential health and safety risks for customers who have purchased the affected products.

1. Frito-Lay 15 oz. Tostitos Avocado Salsa Jar Dips
These salsa dips could normally be found at all Walmart stores, and are being pulled from shelves (as of June 16, 2023) due to a mislabeling. According to the FDA, while the front of these affected jars are "correctly labeled as Tostitos Avocado Salsa, the back of the jar is mislabeled with another product’s nutrition information and declarations." As a result, the "allergen milk is not declared on the label."
The FDA adds that the product covered by this recall was "distributed nationwide at retail stores and via e-commerce channels." Consumers would have been able to purchase the jars as early as April 5, 2023. "No other Tostitos products, flavors, sizes, or dip variety packs are recalled," they stressed. "No allergic reactions related to this matter have been reported to date," the FDA continued, adding, "If consumers have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk, they should not consume the product and discard it immediately. Frito-Lay has informed the FDA of this action."
2. Marie Callender’s Frozen Beef Shepherd Pie
This frozen product has been available at select Walmart stores in Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Wyoming. According to the FSIS in a (June 16, 2023) announcement, Conagra Brands, Inc., a Russellville, Ark. establishment, is recalling "approximately 2,717 pounds of frozen beef shepherd’s pie products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically clear, flexible plastic."
The frozen beef shepherd’s pie products were "produced on March 1, 2023," the organization adds, "with time stamps ranging between 17:45-17:56 hours." The following products are subject to recall: 4.31 lbs. cases of "MC Beef Shepherd’s Pie" with lot code 5006306020, BEST BY FEB 24 2024 and case code 2113100032, containing six 11.5 oz. carton packages of "Marie Callender’s BEEF SHEPHERD’S PIE" with lot code 5006306020 and BEST BY FEB 24 2024 on the side panel, with time stamps ranging between 17:45-17:56.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number "EST 233" next to the USDA mark of inspection on the case and above the "BEST BY DATE" on the side panel of the individual product. The problem was discovered when the "firm received consumer complaints reporting pieces of clear, flexible plastic in the product, and notified FSIS of the situation," the FSIS added, noting that there have been "no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products."
3. Johnsonville Beddar With Cheddar Ready-to-Eat Pork Sausage Links
Walmart shoppers could normally pick up these sausage links at stores in the following states: Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma and South Dakota. This month, Johnsonville, LLC, a Sheboygan Falls, Wis. establishment, recalled approximately "42,062 pounds of ready-to-eat (RTE) “Beddar with Cheddar” pork sausage links that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically very thin strands of black plastic fibers," the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced.
The RTE pork sausage links were produced on Jan. 26, 2023. More product details: "14-oz. vacuum-packed packages of "Johnsonville BEDDAR with CHEDDAR Smoked Sausage links MADE WITH 100% PREMIUM PORK" with a Best By 07/11/2023 C35 code date printed on the back." The products subject to recall bear establishment number "EST. 34224" inside the USDA mark of inspection, the FSIS points out. This item was shipped to retail locations in Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Texas.
"The problem was discovered after the firm received one consumer complaint about the product containing very thin strands of black plastic fibers," the organization added, although there have luckily been "no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of this product."
