An emerald and diamond ring that once belonged to the Duchess of Windsor, Wallis Simpson, have sold for $46,250 at an auction in Belfast. The set was a gift from Simpson's husband, the Duke of Windsor, who abdicated as king.

After Simpson, the jewelry set was then sold to socialite Esther McCreery who met the Duke and Duchess through her role as a liaison for the American Embassy in the Bahamas.

The sale exceeded Karl Bennett's, managing director of Bloomfield Auctions, expectations by $10,000. "I am delighted with what the emerald and diamond bracelet and ring has fetched at auction," he said according to the Irish News. "The pair is the most stunning item of jewelry I have ever had on sale at the auction house."

An original handwritten letter by the late Queen Elizabeth II addressed to lord Plunkett for his engagement was also sold for $1,200.

Wallis Simpson is known to have had an impressive collection of jewels–so much, that it was dubbed the "alternative Crown Jewels." Some standout pieces in her collection included an onyx and diamond panther bracelet by Cartier; a ruby and sapphire brooch given to Simpson by the Prince of Wales; and a ruby and diamond Cartier bracelet that sold for $2.15 million at auction in 2021.

The first sale of Wallis Simpson's jewelry came a year after her death. The auction was held by Sotheby's in large tents pitched outside of Beau-Rivage hotel on the banks of Lake Geneva and brought in more than $30 million.
