'Walking Dead' fans skeptical of odd new characters

Sure, Rick and Negan got into a cool fight on The Walking Dead, but even more importantly, a new group made contact with the Hilltop. Much like Maggie, fans were skeptical of the new group, at least at first. Maggie and crew met the group, led by Georgie (Jayne Atkinson), who wanted to meet under the guise of becoming trade partners. But Georgie wasn’t offering what the food-strapped Hilltop was looking for. “I come bearing knowledge to trade — essential knowledge for the future,” Georgie said. Fans didn’t trust Georgie.

In exchange for her knowledge, Georgie wanted food and records. No spoken-word records, though. Only music. Given the history with new groups, Maggie wasn’t having it. She took Georgie and her companions back to the Hilltop planning only to take what they had, not to make a deal. But Michonne persuaded Maggie to make a deal just to see where it might lead, and it led to Georgie sweetening her original offer.

In exchange for records and good faith, Georgie gave Maggie food, saying, “From the looks of things around here, you need it far more than we do.” She also gave Maggie the aforementioned knowledge in the form of a book that could help rebuild civilization. Georgie said, “Inside there are handwritten plans for windmills, water mills, silos. Hand-drawn schematics. Guides for refining grain, lumber, aqueducts. A book of medieval human achievement so we may have a future from our past.”

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.
