Some may argue that in this day and age, remakes and reboots of past movies and shows tend to go a bit overboard. And while we have to agree with some of that sentiment — we'll always take classics like West Side Story, A Star is Born, Beverly Hills 90210 and One Day at a Time over their newer counterparts — there are a few that we're already itching for the newest season, like The CW's Walker.

The American crime drama, which is a reboot/reimaging of the 1993 hit western series Walker, Texas Ranger starring Chuck Norris that ran for nine season, stars Supernatural alum Jared Padalecki as Cordell Walker, and has made quite a splash in the fall TV lineup the past couple of years. It follows Cordell, a Texas ranger who navigates life as a new widower with his two children in Austin after he returns home from being undercover for two years. But after a few years of new shows hitting the screen just to be canceled after a few episodes or seasons, fans of the three-season running Austin-based thriller are left-wondering — can they count on a fourth?

The short answer: Yes!

Read ahead for everything we know about Season 4 of Walker.

Is there a release date for Walker season 4?

Variety reported in May 2023 that Walker was renewed for a fourth season, and cast member Keegan Allen, who plays Cordell Walker's brother Liam, most recently confirmed that filming for it has officially started by sharing a behind-the-scenes photo on his Instastory. According to Screenrant, season 4 is expected to be released sometime during the summer of 2024, but as of now no specific date as been confirmed.

It was also reported that season 4 will have 13 episodes, a shorter season compared to the 18 in seasons 1 and 2 and the 20 in season 2. "I’m so excited and grateful to continue the ‘Walker’ legacy for another season alongside our partners at CBS Studios and The CW," Jared, star and executive producer, said when the news was announced. "We can’t wait to make Season 4 bigger and better than ever and to lasso even more fans into the ‘Walker’ family. Let’s ride!"

What is season 4 of Walker about?

The season 3 finale left a lot up in the air when it came to the future of your favorite characters. Captain James and Kelly were remarried, Cordell's son Auggie revealed he wanted to join the Army, while his daughter announced she wanted to go to college. Cassie was looking at an opportunity with the FBI. There was a surprise kiss, a killer coming back from the past, an accidental shooting and so much more. There hasn't been any official word on what storylines the Texas folks are going to be involved in for the upcoming season, but we're sure the consequences and aftermath of the finale will be examined in season 4.
