  • Chicago Med star Colin Donnell will appear on the show for one final episode during season 5.

  • The actor's return comes just three months after NBC announced his exit.

Earlier this year, Chicago Med fans were devastated when news broke that actor Colin Donnell would be leaving the show due to "creative reasons."

At the time, Colin—who is known as Dr. Connor Rhodes on the popular NBC series—took to Twitter to address his exit.

"Sorry to say that this is true," he wrote. "I love my #ChicagoMed #OneChicago family dearly. And a special thank you to all the fans that have made these last four seasons so amazing."

Although Colin said he was moving on, recent reports about him reappearing this fall caused a little confusion. Here's the lowdown: It is true, that his character's time in Chicago isn't over—but it will be soon. New information confirms that Dr. Connor will make one final appearance "towards the beginning" of season 5 of Chicago Med to wrap up his storyline. After that, it's goodbye for real.

That said, there are still no details about how Dr. Connor's last moments on screen will go. But based on the season finale's insane cliffhanger, it's definitely going to be dramatic.

Colin's real-life exit from the series' titular city was much less so, though. The actor shared a heartfelt Instagram photo revealing he was leaving the Illinois hotspot behind.

"It’s the real moving day here in Chicago. This city and the people in it have left an imprint on our hearts as big and wide as the city itself," Colin captioned the post. "We came here just after getting married to a new job and quickly fell in love with everything Chicago has to offer. Thanks for all the memories, we'll visit often."

Even if it's short-lived, we're happy to have a little more Colin/Connor to look forward to in a few months.
