A 'Castle' Star Is Coming to 'The Rookie' and the Photos Are Amazing

Nathan Fillion is best known for his time on Castle, the beloved crime drama that ran from 2009-2016. After Castle ended, he scored roles on shows like Modern Family and A Series of Unfortunate Events, yet, still, we patiently waited for our favorite amateur detective to return to his roots. And then The Rookie came along.

The ABC series surrounds Nathan’s character, John Nolan, who decides to follow his dreams of joining the LAPD after a scary, life-altering incident. Unfortunately for him, he’s the oldest of his fellow “rookies” and the other officers and superiors aren’t exactly on board with his presence. But John didn't back down last year, and he’s definitely not going to when he returns for season 2 this fall, either. Here’s everything to know about The Rookie’s next episodes.

When does “The Rookie” return?

The Rookie season 2 will premiere Sunday, September 29 at 10 p.m. EST.

Who else stars on “The Rookie” besides Nathan Fillion?

Alyssa Diaz plays Angela Lopez, the training officer for Jackson West, who’s portrayed by Titus Makin Jr. Actor Richard T. Jones is the suspicious Sergeant Wade Gray, and Afton Williamson is John’s training officer, Talia Bishop. Melissa O’Neil and Eric Winter also appear as Lucy Chen and Tim Bradford, respectively.

It looks like we're also in store for a few extra-special guest stars. Shark Tank's Mark Cuban is apparently joining for an episode, and he looks like a natural on set.

What we really can't wait to see, though, is a mini Castle reunion. This sneak peek photo from ABC shows that Seamus Dever will definitely appear on the series, while tweets with Nathan and This Is Us star Jon Huertas also suggest he may have a quick role.

What day is “The Rookie” on?

Though it had previously aired on Tuesdays, The Rookie will now run on Sunday nights after Shark Tank. One hour of Mark and Lori Greiner’s take on wacky products followed by another of Nathan solving crime? Sounds like the best way to end a weekend!

Finally, we have some info on what we can expect. ABC released a new trailer, and apparently the team will be dealing with a "biological attack" in Los Angeles. Even worse, Tim is affected.

Will they be able to save him in time? Or are we about to lose a major member of the squad? The suspense is too much!
