Waffle House Revealed One Menu Hack They Actually Endorse—And It Sounds Delicious

Plus, we're spilling about how to make this secret menu item at home.

Similar to how the Waffle House has a secret language, the beloved Southern diner chain is famous for having secret menu items that think outside the all-star box.

However, not every Waffle House secret menu item is endorsed by staff. In fact, many special orders are despised by cooks and servers.

Case in point: The viral-on-TikTok "Waffle House sandwich;” a Bacon Texas Cheesesteak Melt stuffed between two full waffles instead of Texas toast. After the video went wild, garnering more than 6.8 million views and 11,500 comments, fans rushed into Waffle House locations across the South.

Waffle House staff fought back against this fussy off-menu order. They responded by posting viral videos of their own with signs that read, "Order from the menu. We are NOT MAKING anything you saw on TikTok,” and sharing insider advice about the over-the-top customizations: “Yeah, that sandwich's going to cost y'all about $20. Stick to a Texas Bacon Cheesesteak Melt or a Texas Sausage Egg and Cheese Melt."

While Waffle House employees aren’t so keen on that viral sandwich, they just shared one menu hack that they do actually endorse.

How To Order the Waffle House Bacon, Egg, Cheese, and Chicken Sandwich

Posted on the official Waffle House Instagram account in August 2023, this special sandwich recipe involves far fewer extra steps—and upcharges—compared to that other recent Waffle House secret menu item.

To add this Waffle House-approved “❗️ Menu Hack ❗️” (their description) to your order, simply ask for:

Then all that’s left to do is wait the lightning-quick turnaround time for the cooks to prepare and assemble your meal (how are they always so fast?!). Then, "thank us later," the Waffle House social media team jokes.

In the video showcasing this new Waffle House menu hack, they show how many layers there are to love. Working from the plate up, you can look forward to:

  • Bottom bun

  • Grilled onions

  • Grilled chicken

  • Melted American cheese

  • Sunny side up egg

  • Bacon strips

  • Top bun

As the secret menu sandwich is assembled, the yolk breaks, acting like a luscious, savory condiment for the sandwich. That means that no ketchup or mustard is required. (Although you could certainly add some yourself if you like!)

Enjoy your sandwich with a side of hashbrowns any which way—it automatically comes with the meal—for a hearty hack of a sandwich that’s ideal for breakfast, lunch, or dinner.
