A Waco Realtor Reveals the Big Problem with Selling Fixer Upper Houses

You would think that the chance to sell one of Chip and Joanna Gaines’ Fixer Upper properties would be a dream come true for any real estate agent. But according to Kristin Clements, the realtor handling the sale of the "Asian Ranch House" from season two of the hit HGTV show, that’s not the case.

The Waco home, which is currently listed by Camille Johnson Realtors for $679,900, has proven quite difficult to sell. Clements told Insider that the problem has nothing to do with its design—which we have to say, is gorgeous. It’s the property’s price tag that’s been causing it to sit on the market, even after a $60,000 price chop. The median listing price in Waco is $200,000.

"Our honey spot is around that $150,000 to $250,000 range—that’s where we’ll get people buying right away," Clements said of the city’s real estate market.

But there’s no shortage of interest the 4,235-square foot home. In fact, Clements told Insider that when it was first listed online, it brought in a whopping 18,000 views. By comparison, most of her other homes get around 100 views.

"Just by having the ‘Fixer Upper’ name in our description, we get a lot of traffic online, which is typically how you sell houses," Clements said.

Unfortunately, in the case of the Asian Ranch house, views haven’t translated into showings.

"In this case, it’s kind of been different because people are looking at it just because it has a 'Fixer Upper' name on it, not because they can actually afford it," Clements said.
