WAA announces June's Artists of the Month

May 24—The Weatherford Art Association has announced its winners of Artist of the Month for June. Each month, WAA members can compete for first, second and third place ribbons and the opportunity to showcase their artwork at local Weatherford banks and The Doss Heritage and Culture Center.

In June, all Artist of the Month winners will be eligible to compete for the Artist of the Year award. Images of the previous winners art will be voted on by online proxy for the award.

First place was awarded to artist Amy Smith with her acrylic painting "Grandma's Crystal," a painting of her late Grandma Betty's crystal bowl. This was Smith's first time attempting to paint a glass subject. This and her other artworks will be featured at The Doss Heritage and Culture Center throughout June.

Second place went to Cher Crosby with her piece "#316," a pastel rendition of a photo of one of her favorite calves taken years earlier on their ranch in Cody, Wyoming. Weatherford Art Association invites you to view this work, on display in June at First Bank Texas in downtown Weatherford.

Third place honors were awarded to Debra Strandberg with her watercolor painting "Carolyn." This painting was inspired by a photo of her friend Carolyn. View Strandberg's painting in June, at the Fort Worth Community Credit Union on South Main Street in Weatherford.

As part of its mission as a non-profit 501©(3), the Weatherford Art Association provides monthly demonstrations to increase the knowledge of members and support arts education for the community. Monthly meetings are held at the Senior Center, 1225 Holland Lake Drive in Weatherford from 6 to 7:45 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month, except December. Learn more at weatherfordart.com.
